AI SEO tools in 2026: an honest map of what each type does
Updated · 5 min read · By Mohamed Asif M
The short answer
AI SEO tools fall into four groups: trackers that check whether AI assistants mention you, big SEO suites that added AI features, content tools that help write and optimise pages, and automation tools that change your site for you. Pick by the job you need done, not the AI label: most small businesses need tracking plus help fixing their own pages, not five separate subscriptions. Prices below were checked on each tool's own site on 22 October 2026.
Key points
- "AI SEO tool" covers very different products; sort them by the job they do before comparing prices.
- AI visibility trackers measure whether ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI name you; they don't fix anything.
- Content tools speed up writing, but Google says to fact-check all AI-generated content before publishing.
- Automation tools that inject changes with JavaScript can disappear when you cancel; ask what stays.
Why the category is confusing
Since AI answers arrived in search, almost every SEO product calls itself an "AI SEO tool". Some use AI to do the work; some measure how you appear in AI answers; some do both. If you're not sure which problem you're solving, read AI SEO: what it really means first.
Here are the four groups, with examples. We build ParSEO, so we've included it; judge it by the same questions as everything else.
1. AI visibility trackers
These ask AI assistants questions your customers might ask and record whether your brand is named, how it's described and which sources are cited. Useful if AI answers matter in your market; they measure, they don't fix.
| Tool | Cheapest paid plan (checked 22 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Otterly.AI | $29 a month |
| Peec AI | $95 a month |
| AthenaHQ | $295 a month |
| Scrunch | $300 a month |
| Profound | Custom pricing |
What to ask: which assistants it checks, how many times each question is asked (answers vary between runs), and whether it shows the sources the assistant cited. Our Otterly comparison goes into one example in detail.
2. SEO suites with AI features
The established all-in-one platforms: keyword research, rank tracking, site audits, backlink data, and now AI features such as AI visibility reports and writing assistants. Powerful, and built for marketers and agencies who use them every day.
| Tool | Cheapest paid plan (checked 22 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Semrush | $139 a month |
| Ahrefs | $29 a month (limited), Lite $129 |
| SE Ranking | $129 a month |
| Moz Pro | $49 a month |
| Ubersuggest | $29 a month |
What to ask: whether you'll actually use the depth, and whether the AI features you want are in the base plan or an add-on. See our comparisons with Semrush and Ahrefs.
3. AI content tools
These help write and optimise pages: briefs from top results, drafts, suggestions on headings and topics to cover.
| Tool | Cheapest paid plan (checked 22 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Surfer | $49 a month (billed annually) |
| Writesonic | $99 a month |
What to ask: how it handles facts. Google's guidance says it's critical to fact-check and review all AI-generated content for accuracy before publishing, and that generating many pages without adding value can count as scaled content abuse. A content tool is a drafting aid; your expertise and checking are what make the page worth ranking. See SEO content writing.
4. On-site automation
These change your website for you: titles, descriptions, schema, internal links, sometimes content.
| Tool | Cheapest paid plan (checked 22 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Rank Math (WordPress plugin) | About $9 a month |
| Search Atlas (OTTO) | $99 a month |
| Alli AI | $299 a month |
What to ask: how changes are made. Some tools apply changes through a JavaScript snippet that rewrites the page in the browser; if you cancel, those changes can vanish. Others edit your site's actual content or code, so the changes stay. Also ask whether you approve changes before they go live. Our Search Atlas comparison and Rank Math comparison cover both approaches.
Local tools
For businesses that depend on Google Maps, local tools track map rankings by area, manage listings and monitor reviews. BrightLocal starts at $41 a month (checked 22 October 2026). See local SEO for small business for what to track.
Where ParSEO fits
ParSEO combines a tracker and on-site fixes for small businesses: it checks your searches daily and asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI and Perplexity your customers' questions every week, then fixes your own website (pages, titles, schema) with your OK, and keeps a dated receipt for each change next to Search Console's numbers. Plans are ₹2,999, ₹6,999 and ₹12,999 a month (Starter, Grow, Scale), billed in rupees, with every limit on pricing. It doesn't do deep backlink research like the big suites, or manage your Business Profile.
How to choose
- Name the job. "See if AI names us" is a tracker. "Research keywords and competitors every day" is a suite. "Write better pages faster" is a content tool. "Get the fixes done" is automation or a person.
- Check what you'll use weekly. A suite you open once a month is expensive.
- Ask what stays if you leave. Content and code changes on your site should stay yours.
- Ask how it measures success. Prefer tools that show Google's own Search Console numbers, not only their own scores.
- Try it on one real problem before committing, such as one page that isn't ranking.
A worked example
A real estate agency in Navi Mumbai (a made-up example) is tempted by three subscriptions: a suite, a content tool and an AI tracker. It writes down its jobs instead: know whether it's named when people ask AI about "2BHK in Kharghar", fix its eight locality pages, and see results in Google's own numbers. It needs tracking plus fixes, not deep keyword research. It trials a tool that does both for a month, measures the locality pages in Search Console, and decides from there. See our page for real estate.
Prices change
All prices above are the cheapest paid plan we found on each tool's own pricing page on 22 October 2026, in the tool's own currency. They change often, so check before you buy. For a broader take on whether all this means the end of SEO, read is SEO dead?.
Questions people ask
What are AI SEO tools?
Tools that use AI to do SEO work (research, drafts, audits, site changes) or that measure how your business appears in AI answers like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews. Many do a bit of both.
Which AI SEO tool is best for a small business?
The one that does the job you need. Most small businesses need to see their positions and AI mentions and to get their own pages fixed; deep keyword and backlink suites suit marketers and agencies.
Are AI-written pages bad for SEO?
Not in themselves. Google says appropriate use of AI isn't against its guidelines, but generating many pages without adding value can be scaled content abuse, and all AI content should be fact-checked before publishing.
Do AI visibility trackers improve my rankings?
No. They measure whether assistants name you and which sources they cite. Improving that takes changes to your pages, your details across the web and your reputation.
